About These Terms
These terms are between you and The Scivant Review, the operator of this website and journal. By using the site or submitting a paper, you agree to them. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must also accept them, including the author warranties and the responsibility section below, which they do as part of giving consent for your submission.
Eligibility
The submitting (corresponding) author must be a high school or undergraduate student, at least 13 years old, when they submit. Co-authors may be fellow students, or teachers, mentors, professors or researchers who made a substantial contribution to the work. Every author under 18 needs a parent or guardian's consent before the paper is reviewed.
Author Warranties
When you submit, you promise (warrant) that:
- The work is original, and it is your own and your co-authors' work.
- Every source, and anyone else's words, data, figures or ideas, is properly cited.
- It has not been published elsewhere and is not under review anywhere else.
- You have the right to publish it, and to grant the license described below, including for figures and other material in the paper.
- Every co-author has agreed to the submission.
- Your statements about conflicts of interest, funding and AI use are complete and true.
- Research with people or animals was done under adult supervision or with IRB approval, with any required consent.
The authors are solely responsible for the content of their paper. If plagiarism is found, the paper is rejected immediately, no fees are refunded, and the authors are barred from future submissions. If it is found after publication, the article is publicly retracted.
Responsibility for Breaches
If any of the warranties above turns out to be untrue, you agree to cover the costs, losses and reasonable legal fees that The Scivant Review incurs because of it, including the costs of responding to a copyright or plagiarism claim and of removing or retracting the paper. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian accepts this responsibility with you when they give consent.
Review and Decisions
Papers are reviewed as described in our peer review process. We aim to meet the turnaround times we publish but can't guarantee them in every case. Editorial decisions are final. Concerns about misconduct, plagiarism, or a reviewer's conflict of interest can be reported to editor@scivantreview.org.
When revisions are requested:
- Every paper gets one round of revisions. The decision email lists every required change, numbered, under “Specific changes requested” in the reviewer report.
- Your revision must make every required change. Your response letter answers each one by its number and says exactly where in the paper the change was made.
- If you believe a requested change is wrong, say so in your response letter, with your reasons. The editor decides whether your explanation is accepted.
- The editor checks the revision against the numbered list. If any required change is missing or incomplete, the paper isn’t accepted in that round: the editor either asks for a second round of revisions, which moves the paper to the next issue, or rejects it.
- Whether a revision makes the required changes is the editor’s decision, and it is final.
Fees and Payment
The fees are: a $30 submission fee, charged at submission; a $175 publication fee, charged only after acceptance; and an optional $75 expedited review fee. A resubmission after rejection is a new submission with a new submission fee. Paying any fee does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
The publication fee must be paid, and the final Word file uploaded, by 11:59 p.m. Eastern 7 days before the issue date. If either arrives later, the paper moves to the next issue. An accepted paper can move to a later issue only once because its publication fee or final file was late. If they still haven’t arrived by that issue’s deadline, the acceptance lapses and the paper is withdrawn. Fees already paid are not refunded, and sending the paper again means a new submission with a new submission fee.
Paying a fee never guarantees publication, or publication in a particular issue. Your paper is considered for the issue whose deadline you submit by, and is published in that issue only if it is accepted after no more than one round of revisions and you meet every deadline we give you: the submission fee (and any parent or guardian consent) by the submission deadline, a revision that makes every required change by its due date, and the final Word file and publication fee by the final-file deadline. Our own screening, review and decision times are set so that, when all of this happens, the paper fits in the issue. Otherwise it moves to a later issue, and no fee is refunded.
All fees are final and non-refundable. The only exceptions are:
- A duplicate or mistaken charge, which is refunded in full.
- An accepted paper whose publication fee was paid, if the journal then fails to publish it for reasons on the journal’s side. The publication fee is refunded.
There is no refund in any other case, including when a paper is rejected, withdrawn, or moved to a later issue because the final file or publication fee arrived after its deadline. These terms are shown before every payment. Payments are processed by Stripe.
Publication and License
You keep the copyright to your paper. If it is published, you license it to the public under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0) and grant The Scivant Review a non-exclusive, permanent right to publish, display, archive and distribute it, and to register persistent identifiers for it. Published articles are corrected or retracted only as described in our policies.
Withdrawal
You may withdraw a paper at any time before it is accepted by emailing editor@scivantreview.org with your tracking ID. Fees already paid are not refunded, except as described above.
Acceptable Use
Don't misuse the site: no attempts to access other people's submissions, disrupt the service, or submit material that is unlawful, plagiarized, or harmful. We may reject submissions or refuse service to anyone who breaks these terms or our policies.
Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The site and journal are provided "as is". Published articles are the work of their authors and don't represent the views of the journal. To the extent the law allows, The Scivant Review's total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fees you paid for the submission concerned.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of [state to be confirmed], United States.
Changes and Contact
We may update these terms and will post the new version here with its date. Changes don't affect submissions already made. Questions: editor@scivantreview.org.
